Yellowstone National Park

Established in 1872, Yellowstone National Park is America's first national park. At 2.2 million acres, it is located principally in northwestern Wyoming, with small portions spilling over into Idaho and Montana. While known for its abundant and diverse wildlife, it is perhaps the large variety of iconic mammals that attract most visitors to the area. The park is home to 67 different mammal species including bison, bears, wolves, pronghorn, elk, bighorn sheep, a variety of cats, and much more.

Yellowstone National Park forms the core of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem—one of the largest nearly intact temperate-zone ecosystems on Earth, meaning that animal and plant life today are mostly the same as before humans moved into the area. It stretches 22 million acres across Wyoming, Montana and Idaho, and also includes Grand Teton National Park, national forests and wildlife refuges, state land, private land, Bureau of Land Management holdings, and tribal lands.
