Dunlins

Dunlins are small, energetic shorebirds that gather in lively flocks along coastlines and wetlands across the Northern Hemisphere. In winter, their soft gray-brown plumage blends easily into sandy shores and tidal flats, while in breeding season many develop a distinctive black belly patch. Constantly on the move, Dunlins can be seen probing the mud with their slightly downcurved bills in search of insects, crustaceans, and other tiny invertebrates.

These highly migratory birds travel vast distances between Arctic breeding grounds and milder coastal wintering areas, often forming dense, swirling flocks that move in near-perfect unison. Their synchronized flight and busy feeding habits make Dunlins a familiar and captivating presence on shorelines around the world.
