Puffins

Puffins are charismatic seabirds known for their colorful bills, upright posture, and lively presence along northern coastlines. Found across the North Atlantic and North Pacific, these small seabirds spend most of their lives at sea, coming ashore only to breed on rocky cliffs and offshore islands. Excellent swimmers and divers, puffins use their wings to “fly” underwater as they chase small fish and other marine prey.

There are three recognized species of puffin worldwide — the Atlantic Puffin, the Tufted Puffin, and the Horned Puffin — all sharing similar habits and adaptations for life at sea. Social and often nesting in large colonies, puffins dig burrows or use crevices to raise their chicks. With their distinctive appearance and busy coastal colonies, puffins have become beloved symbols of northern oceans and wild shorelines.
